중학교 2학년 겨울방학...
중화동에 있는 형님네 옥탑방에서 한 달을 지냈습니다.

공부한다는 핑계를 대고 올라왔지만
기실 촌놈의 서울 구경이 목적이었지요.

형님이 가르쳐 준 버스 노선 번호를 외워
종로며 청계천을 구경 다녔습니다.
시골서 올라온 15살 꼬맹이가 눈이 휘둥그레질 만한
재미있고 신기한 물건들이 많았지요.
금장 가스라이터, 휴대용 카세트, 손가락 두 개 만한 얇은 스테레오 라디오,
자전거 클락션 처럼 생긴 고무를 누르면 삐삐 소리가 나며 형광등이 On Off 되는 장치(최초의 리모콘?)
'애들은 가라이~' 하는 뱀장수 아저씨까지...

형님이 출근한 후
밖에 나가지 않는 날이면 집에 있는 카세트를 들었습니다.
당시 대학생이던 둘째 형님이 두고 가셨던...

히트곡을 모아놓은 불법(?) 테이프 였는데요,
몇날 며칠을 듣다 그만 그들에게 푹 빠져버리고 말았답니다.

지금도 'The Official Story Of The Bee Gees' DVD를 사서
몇 번을 되돌려 볼 정도이지요.
